Muay Thai, also called Thai Boxing, is a martial art and a combative sport characterized by its concentration on stand-up and clinch striking. It is referred to as “The Art of Eight Limbs” or “The Science of Eight Limbs” because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight points of contact. This program is designed to get you in shape and learn the fundamentals of Muay Thai, Boxing and Kickboxing. This is one of the best ways to improve your physical fitness while using useful techniques in a fun and safe environment. This class is geared towards reaching all levels of individuals; regardless of their physical condition and technical ability

MUAY THAI KICKBOXING!

Muay Thai, which translates to Thai Boxing, is a system of combat that is over 4 centuries old. During ancient times, the Thai people developed Muay Thai as a dominating and combative system to be used against the enemies from other nations. At that time, Muay Thai was time tested and proven effective by the ancient warriors of Siam. Around the early 1920’s, Thai Boxing spawned into a modern day sport, similar to boxing you would see on TV, and today is known as Thailand’s national sport.

Thai Boxing teaches the student or fighter to use their most effective natural weapons; fists, knees, elbows and legs. Traditionally, as other martial arts would, Thai Boxing does not have a rank system based on colored belts. All types of people, worldwide, use Thai Boxing to not only learn how to defend themselves, but also as a way to get in shape, burn off stress and most popular, have fun.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about training Muay Thai

Q: DO I NEED TO BE IN SHAPE TO START?

A: No! The Staff at Nick Catone's Mixed Martial Arts Academy takes pride in getting each and every student in the best shape possible. It’s our Job!

Q: DO WOMEN TRAIN IN MUAY THAI?

A: Of course! Actually, women make up 30-40% of our regular Kickboxing program. Keep in mind this isn’t an aerobic kickboxing workout that you would see on a video or at a health club. This program is primarily designed to help develop real-life self defense skills.

Q: IS MUAY THAI FOR EVERYONE?

A: No! If you want to benefit from the training of Muay Thai Kickboxing, you need to have the desire to improve yourself physically and mentally. Thai training teaches the practitioner to work through and excel during stressful physical situations and helps the individual work through many challenges. If you are this type of person, then Muay Thai is for you!

Q: IS MUAY THAI KICKBOXING SAFE?

A: Contrary to what most people think of Kickboxing and martial arts in general, you won’t be going home from Muay Thai class with black eyes and a broken nose.
